Mō te tūranga: About the role
Assisting the team to keep the general appearance of the Zoo looking it’s best throughout the day. 

There is a little bit of everything to do from collecting recycling and animal waste; leaf blowing and clearing paths; collecting browse and bamboo for animal diets, and pretty much anything else that needs doing to keep the Zoo in tip-top shape for our visitors.   

If you are keen on a physical, all-weather role in a unique environment then this is the place for you! Hours of work are usually 7:30am – 4pm inclusive of breaks. 

He kōrero mōu: About you

  • Ability to do manual labour and be reasonably fit (we are on a hill and there is lots of walking).
  • Willing and able to work outside in all weather conditions. 
  • The flexibility to work as required, including weekends, public holidays, early morning starts.
  • Current driver’s licence and the ability to drive a manual transmission vehicle. 
  • You are level-headed and take health and safety seriously.
  • Able to be a team player, take responsibility for your work, and follow instructions. 
  • Willing to learn. 
  • Comfortable communicating with others – there may be times our visitors and/or other staff will want to talk to you 
  • Knowledge of the use and care of small machinery, vehicles and tools (useful not essential).
